چکیده

Abstract The promising phase-field method has been intensively studied for crack approximation in brittle materials. realistic representation of material degradation at a fully evolved is still one the main challenges. Several energy split formulations have postulated to describe evolution physically. A recent approach based on concept representative elements (RCE) Storm et al. (The fracture: anisotropic elasticity and thermo-elasticity. Int J Numer Methods Eng 121:779–805, 2020) introduces variational framework derive kinematically consistent degradation. further tested using self-consistency condition, which particularly compared discrete model. This work extends RCE modeling towards rate-dependent fracture viscoelastic continuum. novelty this paper taking internal variables due viscoelasticity into account determine deformation state. Meanwhile, transient extension from also considered. model derived thermodynamic-consistently implemented FE framework. numerical examples are investigated, consequently, according findings potential perspectives discussed close paper.

buckling of viscoelastic composite plates using the finite strip method

Laws of crack motion and phase-field models of fracture

Recently proposed phase-field models offer self-consistent descriptions of brittle fracture. Here, we analyze these theories in the quasistatic regime of crack propagation. We show how to derive the laws of crack motion either by using solvability conditions in a perturbative treatment for slight departure from the Griffith threshold, or by generalizing the Eshelby tensor to phase-field models....

Phase-field simulations of interfacial dynamics in viscoelastic fluids using finite elements with adaptive meshing

This paper describes a novel numerical algorithm for simulating interfacial dynamics of non-Newtonian fluids. The interface between two immiscible fluids is treated as a thin mixing layer across which physical properties vary steeply but continuously. The property and evolution of the interfacial layer is governed by a phase-field variable / that obeys a Cahn–Hilliard type of convection-diffusi...

Crack Development in Liner Using Caginalp Phase Field Model

The interface between stump and liner (socket) is subject of high pressure in different moments of gait cycle due to loading variation in body movement. The liner is the interface between socket and skin along with soft tissue and bones in a cycling loading. The result is a friction effect combined with pressure that conduct to the heating of skin and liner. The effect is and increasing of pres...

Iterative coupling of flow, geomechanics and adaptive phase-field fracture including level-set crack width approaches

In this work, we present numerical studies of fixed-stress iterative coupling for solving flow and geomechanics with propagating fractures in a porous medium. Specifically, fracture propagations are described by employing a phasefield approach. The extension to fixed-stress splitting to propagating phase-field fractures and systematic investigation of its properties are important enhancements t...
